Fashion Fix: How to make frilly ankle socks

This girlish trend has been around for a while now and is a sure fire way to make socks with sandals acceptable. That is no bad thing in this increasingly changeable weather.

I styled this up in a Wizard of Oz kind of way, shot by my good friend Toby Farrow of Farrows Creative

And here's how you do it...

You will need:
  • Pair of socks
  • Lace (ideally elasticated)
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine
  • Matching thread

How to make:
    1. turn the sock inside out, stretch it around the free arm of the sewing machine, positioning it so you start adding lace from the back of the sock.
    2. place your lace, allowing the frill to stick out over the edge of the sock, and machine a zig zag stitch along the flat edge of the lace, keeping the sock taught. If your lace is elasticated, pull it tight like the sock.
    3. when putting on the sock fold down  the top by an inch.
